Yapping - TCG Panic cont.

 Hello lads and lasses !

Sorry i have dissapeared again - last weeks has been quite active and i couldn't work on the update as planned.

Now that the event has been finalized and the story i was involved in ended - it's time i tell you what happend !

Lylias :
Another unusual story for the records.

So our story begins during my last vacation - I was visiting my old hometown with two of my friends.
As per usual when we got there we scoured the game and book stores in search of new stuff and asa sort of pasttime.
It was during that usual visit that we stumbled upon a shop which was displaying starter decks for a whole new TCG we didn't heard about : Gundam TCG.

At the time me and my friends were not really intimate with gundam as a series and mostly knew it as the "Mecha" show with thousands of series going everywhere.
Seeing the amazing art of the cards i decided to pick up the 4 starter decks that they were selling as i liked discovering TCGs and i liked to have enough decks to experiance the variety of it.
Because if was a holiday, most shops were closed and the place we wanted to go was closed aswell - so with time to waste we decided to learn a bit about Gundam TCG.

Honestly it was fun and we had a good time, so much so one of my friend decided to pick two starter decks aswell : The White base and Zeon decks.
We played it a bit and being intrested in what we were seeing decided to watch the series on our own.
We quickly found a recommanded way to get into the series and we began watching Gundam 079 - the original series.

To say that i was impressed is a clear understatement - for a week of watching it i was at the edge of my sit at every episode.
I knew there was movies that could act as a replacement but i wanted to experiance the original series in all it's glory.
And by the gods i was given an absolute unit of a series - with twist and turns that kept surprising me and suspence that kept me going.

After watching the 41 episodes of the show i can tell that i had fall in love with the series that is gundam and had alot of fun watching.
My friend who took the structure decks alongside me had began watchingand also fell deeply in love with the series.
So much so he decided to invest in the TCG - falling in love with both it's gameplay and the story behind the world.

This all culminated 3 weeks ago - when on sunday we decided to try and maybe participate in a tournament since we both had ordered a display box that same day.
I though not much of it - thinking it was just our usual shenanigans which often leads to both of us doing something stupid but simple
Which is why when i saw his proposal to participate at a tournament the very next saturday i was ... less than confidant to participate.

After thoroughly cursing at him in my head i thought for a bit before sending my reply.
On one hand this would be a fun story to tell but on the other we are thoroughly underprepared with me being the most "Experianced" player with only 10 games played in total.
I carefully considered his viewpoint and decided to take the leap which lead to a very eventful week.

The very same day i began sifting though my deck and to begin a plan with the few cards i had available from the starter decks.
Because i had seen more of the original series i decided to make a Blue and white White base/Seed deck.
After looking at every cards available to me i began to put together my deck.

Wednesday we were scheduled to eat dinner together with another friend so we took that opportunity to test out our decks and duel as much as possible.
Even dragging our other friend into it by playing a battle royal (which is officially supported by the gundam TCG btw)
Stress continued to build up until the end of the week not knowing if our Display boxes would arrive on time.

Also funnily enough i was very excited because i had ordered a Gunpla (A DIY plastic model) of the original gundam and it as arriving during the week.
Finally friday my friend received the Display and we were to meet up at my house to finish our preparations and upgrade our decks with our boosters.
Saturday came and with it i received before the afternoon the last piece i needed to build my gunpla so i decided to try my hand at it before my friend arrived.

When he arrived i had built an arm so i stopped and we upgraded our decks to the best of our abilities.
I was a little faster at building my deck since i already had a sense of the kind of things i wanted in my deck and how to upgrade it.
I finished building my deck early and seeing that my friend was still working on his i continued working on my gunpla.

This led to a pretty funny happenstance - I had trouble cutting some of the pieces, i didn't had the right position and the pieces were flying out of their spot.
My friend is someone who works in factories and have a great deal of experiance in them so seeing my poor technique must have ticked him.
He decided to show me "how a professional would do it", his own words not mine, and i let him use the nipper on the piece i was doing.

In one swift and decisive movement he tried to cut the piece by using the "regular" ammount of strength he uses at work - absolutly shattering the cutting edge of the nipper.
As in he broke half of the nipper - thankfully not hurting anyone in the process - but still i was pretty bummed as that meant i couldn't keep working on my gunpla.
He even had the gall to say that the nipper was "of poor quality" - which of course it was as it had costed me 14€ alongside other stuff, but really wasn't his place to comment.

He apologies for what he had done and said he would buy another one for me - Either way we decided to try our decks to change our mind off of the nipper.
Our decks were as ready as they could be and thus we left for the big city in order to participate in the tournament.
On the way there we were casually chatting and so while the tension was high for the tournament we were having fun notheless - also we were clowing each other so that was a plus.

Finally we arrived at the store for the tournament : we had reserved our spot on the tournament on the official TCGplus website however we discovered that we *also* had to pay our places on the shop website and pay there.
Thankfully the number of available spot was enough so we could enter the tournament - but that still ticked me off as we could have just came for nothing and there was no indicator on the website telling us that we needed to buy our places online.
As i was ranting in my head, we took the time to have a look at the shop - and hopefully find a new nipper to replace the broken one - but they were out of nipper so we just entered the play room.

To get into the rythm we played a few games between ourselves, our deck were quite balanced in the matchup but i managed to win the few rounds we did.
Then it came time for the actual tournament - And thanfully we didn't had to play against one another for the rest of the day.
Wishing ourselves luck we began the tournament as the tension reached it's climax.

My first opponent was a nice guy who seemed to be as ill equipped as i was - even asking me to give him pointers on some rules.
I obliged and we played our game - my deck struggled to start which led to him gaining the advantage.
He was playing a type of deck that was *very* popular in the tournament : a Breach deck - which can damage your shield by destroying your units.

Since i had no real idea of the meta i was defeated after quite the uphill battle on my part.
Soon the second round started and this time i was pitted against one of the best player of this tournament and since my deck didn't bother to start-up i couldn't take the heat.
And so despite my best efforts, i was defeated yet again - Leaving me with two losses and no win.

Since there was an uneven number of people i was granted an automatic win and was forced to watch as my friend dueled someone else.
After a pretty eventfull duel where we joked around alot it was time for the final duel of the day - i was facing my last opponent.
Since my friend was against no one else he also received an automatic win - and thus he was sitting beside me as he watched the duel.

No matter what i did, my deck had decided that enough was enough and didn't bother to start once again - leaving me defeated quite easily.
And so i finished with the wonderful score of 1 win and 3 loss giving me the amazing place of 12th player on the leaderboard out of 13 player.
If you are wondering, my friend who had proposed the idea and brought me into this had the even more respectable of 12th - Tied.

Yes Ladies and gentleman - We are simultaneously 12th and 13th player on the leaderboard.
Either way we recieved a participation award booster and a regular booster for our trouble.
Also for some ungodly reason i was selected randomly to receive an additionnal Participation award since there was 1 more participation award that wasn't given.

Tired, hungry but satisfied we left the shop we left the shop with pride as we had accomplished something.
And so to comemorate the event i bought and built another gunpla which you can see here :

Ignore the waifu figures and dust

It's the Real Grade Gundam Exia from Gundam 00.

Anyhow i'll try to write some better updates in the coming weeks - hope you still had fun reading this story.

See you all next friday !
